Annual report
Our 2008 Annual Report (PDF) provides an overview of how your contributions save lives.History of helping patients
Our visionary founder was Admiral E. R. Zumwalt Jr. — the U.S. Navy’s youngest four star admiral and later Chief of Naval Operations. When his eldest son, Elmo, needed a bone marrow transplant to treat lymphoma, Admiral Zumwalt recognized the significant financial needs of patients being served by the NMDP.
After Elmo passed away, Admiral Zumwalt and his wife created The Marrow Foundation, now called Be The Match Foundation, to help meet that need.
