Call For NominationsThe National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) is seeking nominations for at large and scientific positions on the Board of Directors. The NMDP is looking for individuals with the talent and experience to help shape the direction of NMDP's future. The Board Development Committee is interested in individuals with diverse backgrounds, those who have been marrow or stem cell donors, recipients or family members of recipients, international experience, and those with strong business, biotechnology, pharmacology, or financial backgrounds. Other important qualifications are commitment and time to help others. Each term lasts two years with the possibility of reappointment for two additional terms. A Board Member could expect to serve up to 10 days per year in addition to travel and the time it takes to review Board and Committee information in preparation for meetings and conference calls. Candidates must be passionate about NMDP's goals, values and mission. Each should have some high-level decision making experience and knowledge in areas such as public policy, communications, marketing, volunteerism, or medical, scientific, or management aspects of marrow, stem cell or cord blood transplantation. The Nomination Guidelines for Board Membership (PDF) briefly describes the duties of an NMDP board member. The committee plans to interview candidates from June 24-25. Successful candidates will be appointed for a two-year term beginning January 1, 2009. Board members, members of the NMDP Council of Donor, Transplant, Collection Centers and Recruitment Groups, and NMDP staff members are eligible to nominate a candidate for board appointment.
