Donating umbilical cord blood is a generous gift from you and your baby that may change someone else's life. The list below shows hospitals that actively collect cord blood for public cord blood banks that are part of the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) Network of banks. These cord blood units are listed on the NMDP's Be The Match RegistrySM, where they are available to any patient in need of a transplant.

Public cord blood banks cover the costs to collect, test and store umbilical cord blood. Because of funding limitations, it is not possible to donate cord blood at every hospital. Find out if your hospital collects cord blood for public donation by looking at the list below.If your hospital is listed
If your hospital is listed, take the first step by contacting the cord blood bank that works with your hospital. Public cord blood banks have staff dedicated to guiding potential donors through the process.If your hospital is not listed
If your hospital is not listed, don't be discouraged; there may be another option for you.- If the list below shows a cord blood bank in your area, you can contact the cord blood bank to ask whether they can still help you donate.
- You may be able to donate cord blood through Cryobanks International, which accepts donations from anywhere in the continental United States to be listed on the Be The Match Registry. Call 1 (800) 869-8608 to learn about Cryobanks' eligibility requirements and process or visit their Web site at: www.cryo-intl.com/enroll/donating/.
- You can check whether there are other cord blood banks in your area that accept cord blood for public donation. These banks are not part of the NMDP Network of banks and do not list their cord blood units on the NMDP's Be The Match Registry.
- You can ask your hospital whether it accepts cord blood donations for research purposes. Research leads to new treatments that can benefit more patients in the future.
