NMDP's Second Art Contest Winners AnnouncedArt Depicts "Celebrating Second Chances"In the fall of 2000, people from across the United States picked up their paint, markers and pencils to become artists for the NMDP's second Art Contest. The art was inspired by the participant's experiences -- either directly or indirectly-- with the illnesses and the stem cell transplantation process that has provided hope for a second chance at life. To be eligible for prizes, the artists needed to be a volunteer on the Registry, a searching patient, or a patient's family member. The 103 submissions were judged on originality, creativity, visual appearance, neatness, use of color and the use of the theme "Celebrating Second Chances." The contest had two prize categories: 13 and younger and 14 and older. The art will be used in educational materials and events to increase awareness about the NMDP.
