Medical Professionals' Guide to Unrelated Stem Cell Transplantation

The National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP) has published the third edition of the A Medical Professionals' Guide to Unrelated Donor Stem Cell Transplantation. It is easier to use and provides medical professionals with everything they need to know to run a preliminary search of the NMDP's Registry of potential marrow and blood stem cell donors or umbilical cord blood units.

  • Search Process Overview
  • Preliminary Search Request Form
  • Interpretation Guidelines

"The unrelated donor search process can be prolonged, so it is critical for medical professionals to understand it and to initiate a search of the NMDP's Registry early in the course of disease," says Dr. Dennis Confer, chief medical officer for the NMDP.

Preliminary searches of the NMDP's Registry are provided at no cost to licensed physicians for their patients.

New to the 2001 Medical Professionals' Guide are:

  • Separate pediatric outcomes of NMDP-facilitated transplants for acute lymphocytic leukemia, acute myelogenous leukemia and other rare diseases.
  • New data on the likelihood of finding a perfectly matched donor.

Other information:

  • How to Make A Referral
  • Tissue Typing Methods
  • Diseases Treatable by Stem Cell Transplantation
  • Transplant Outcome Data for Adults.
  • Toll-free phone number to answer questions.
A printed copy can be ordered via the online order form.
