Public Service Announcements AvailableXM Satellite Radio Supports Awareness Campaign
Leveraging its relationships with recording artists and celebrities and its production expertise, XM produced a group of public service announcements (PSAs) ready to be downloaded and aired by radio stations across the country. XM wrote, produced and packaged the PSAs for airing. The PSAs share the message of National Marrow Awareness Month: Volunteer marrow and blood stem cell donors can help save lives, and more volunteer potential donors are needed. You can hear the PSAs on our Web site, where they are available for any radio station to download them for airing.
Reaching Diverse AudiencesPSAs Featuring Quincy JonesOne set of PSAs features music legend Quincy Jones, and Barbara Rozier, whose daughter Monica received a life-saving marrow transplant. Like many Black and African American patients, Monica faced a great challenge in finding a matching donor. Because the tissue traits used to match donors and patients are inherited, her best chance of a match was someone of her same racial or ethnic heritage. But the number of Black and African American volunteers on the NMDP Donor Registry was small. For four years the Roziers waited for a matching volunteer who could donate the marrow Monica needed for a transplant. Today, Barbara Rozier thanks the man who joined the Registry and followed through on his commitment to donate. These PSAs were produced to support the NMDP's efforts to reach out to the Black and African American communities. When more Blacks and African Americans join the Registry, patients like Monica have a better chance of finding a match. Now radio stations nationwide have the chance to air these PSAs and help make a difference for transplant patients.
PSAs Featuring NASCAR DriversAnother set of PSAs was produced for use by sports radio, country stations and other formats. These PSAs feature NASCAR greats Jeff Gordon, Terry Labonte and Ricky Craven as well as up-and-coming driver Scott Riggs. Jeff Gordon serves on The Marrow Foundation board of directors. He and other NASCAR drivers regularly lend their support to The Marrow Foundation's efforts to raise awareness and money to help transplant patients and recruit potential donors.
XM's Work with The Marrow FoundationXM Satellite Radio has worked with The Marrow Foundation on previous projects as well. It sponsored a fund-raising reception for Keiko Matsui at the Kennedy Center and has sponsored an employee recruitment drive. But XM went beyond these efforts to make a unique contribution based on its own business strengths and relationships, including its ability to draw participation from celebrities like Quincy Jones and its production capabilities. XM plans to build on its initial efforts by reaching out to involve other celebrities to share the message in future PSAs to be produced throughout the year.Learn more about XM Satellite Radio at http://www.xmradio.com. |
