NASCAR "Fast Lane" CD Benefits Patients

Story Summary

With the help of generous corporate partners, the National Marrow Donor Program is able to provide financial support to help patients in need. Hendrick Motorsports certainly qualifies as one of the most generous of these partners.

This year, the Hendrick Marrow Program in collaboration with Hendrick Motorsports developed “Fast Lane,” a 13-track compilation CD featuring music selected by Hendrick Motorsports drivers and performed by the original artists. This eclectic mix of music was chosen by Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordon, Brian Vickers, Terry Labonte, and Jimmie Johnson, and provides racing fans the opportunity to learn more about their favorite drivers' choice of music. The CD booklet features pictures of each driver and comments regarding the song selections.

As a special bonus, the “Life is a Team Sport” wristband is also shipped with each purchase. Proceeds benefit The Hendrick Marrow Program of The Marrow Foundation®, the funding partner of the National Marrow Donor Program, and T.J. Martell Foundation.

Rick Hendrick, chairman and CEO of Hendrick Motorsports, founded the Hendrick Marrow Program of The Marrow Foundation to generate financial support for bone marrow donor recruitment and to provide financial assistance to marrow transplant patients. Hendrick was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia in 1996 and is now in full remission.

Since its founding, the Hendrick Marrow Program has raised more than $5 million. These funds have:

  • Sponsored drives that have recruited more than 70,000 potential volunteers to the NMDP Registry
  • Granted more than $1 million to help 2,000 patients with uninsured transplant-related costs such as lodging and post-transplant prescriptions
