NMDP Names Claudio Anasetti, M.D., to Board


MINNEAPOLIS -- March 18, 2002

Claudio Anasetti, M.D., has joined the board of directors for the National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP). Anasetti is one of four new members who will serve on the NMDP board of directors.

"I've been involved with the NMDP for many years and am very honored to serve on the board of directors of this life-saving organization," said Anasetti, a transplant physician at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and a professor of medicine at the University of Washington, both located in Seattle, Wash.

Anasetti has written numerous articles for a variety of medical journals and sits on the editorial boards of several medical publications. He is also a member of several professional societies, including the American Association of Immunologists, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Society of Hematology and the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation. Anasetti received a M.D. from the University of Perugia, Italy, where he was also a resident physician.

The National Marrow Donor Program is the international leader in the facilitation of unrelated marrow and blood stem cell transplantation. Based in Minneapolis, Minn., the non-profit organization facilitates unrelated marrow and blood stem cell transplants for patients with life-threatening diseases who do not have matching donors in their families. Since 1986, the NMDP has facilitated more than 13,000 unrelated stem cell transplants for patients with blood disorders, such as leukemia and aplastic anemia, as well as certain immune system and genetic disorders.
