Telephone Support Group:
Parents of Children Who Have
Had A Transplant

The National Marrow Donor Program's Office of Patient Advocacy, in partnership with the National Bone Marrow Transplant Link, offers a Telephone Support Group for parents of children who have had a transplant, are beyond day +100 and have returned home.

The telephone group will meet every Wednesday for six weeks. Once the group is filled, the start date and time of the group will be decided by the parents and guardians who have registered.

The weekly telephone meetings:

  • Provide a supportive connection with other parents who have gone through a bone marrow or cord blood transplant with their child
  • Promote discussion about survivorship issues following transplant
  • Offer information and support
  • Are free and no telephone charges will apply

To register or if you have questions:

  • Call toll-free 1 (888) 999-6743 ext. 8524
  • Or, e-mail: patientinfo@nmdp.org and provide your name, address and telephone number

After registering, you will receive materials for the Parent Telephone Support Group. These materials will contain instructions on how to call in to the weekly meetings.

Facilitators

The group meetings will be co-facilitated by Emily McChesney, MSW, LGSW and Stacy Stickney Ferguson, MSW, LICSW. Emily and Stacy are master-prepared social workers working in the Office of Patient Advocacy and work with patients, caregivers and families from diagnosis through survivorship.

Information shared in this support group is intended to inform and educate only. The information is not a substitute for a doctor's medical judgment or advice. The NMDP recommends that you discuss your specific, individual health concerns with your doctor or health care professional.
