Learning Objectives
- Explain why an HLA-mismatched donor may be an option for patients requiring hematopoietic cell transplantation
- Describe the effects of mismatching at various HLA loci
- Understand how differences between equivalently HLA-matched donors affect outcomes in hematopoietic cell transplantation
Target Audience
This activity is intended for physicians and other healthcare providers who treat patients with hematological malignancies in need of allogeneic transplantation.
Goal
The goal of this activity is to provide physicians and other healthcare providers with information on the new research that defines when transplantation should be considered, whether the outcomes are different between related and unrelated donors, the current state of HLA matching, and insight into the future of transplantation medicine.
